The university programme Paper and Pulp Technology
at TU Graz is the only one in Austria and one of the few in Europe. When students complete the programme, they are qualified for advanced professional activities in the broad field of the paper and pulp industry as well as in the related suppliers. As paper is made of sustainable resources, it also plays an important role in sustainability. The paper and pulp industry is therefore an industry with a future, with great demand for qualified specialists.

Fundamentals
- Introduction to paper and pulp technology
- Different paper and pulp laboratory practicals
The entire production cycle
- From wood to pulp: virgin fibres (including lab practical)
- Preparing raw materials including wastepaper: stock preparation
- Paper and board production
- Paper coating technology and converting (including lab practical)
Process Integration
- Plant simulation for paper and pulp production
- Design exercises for paper and pulp technology (plant design)
Specialisation Subjects
- Production of raw materials
- Paper production
- Application e.g. in printing
- Environmental protection and safety
- Data processing and data analysis
- Business and accounting
Students write a final assignment focussing on current process analysis, research or development. They can write their final paper in cooperation with an industry partner.

Target Groups and Admission Requirements
This university programme is aimed at
- graduates of an Austrian bachelor’s or master's programme connected to the subject, or
- graduates of an equivalent programme at a relevant post-secondary educational institution in Austria or abroad, or
- people with several years of professional experience in pulp and paper, its suppliers or its application industries with basic knowledge in physics and chemistry.
