Depending on your chosen subject focus, you have the following options:

  • Shorter course formats are particularly suitable for acquiring new knowledge or polishing up your existing knowledge in a specific field.
  • Multi-semester programmes can give your professional career a new direction or allow you to gain a new specialisation.

University programmes

Continuing Education Degree Programmes

University course – Microcredential (MC)

  • ECTS credit points: 1 ‒ 9
  • Duration: multiple days up to 1 semester
  • Certificate: Certificate from TU Graz
  • By completing a microcredential, participants gain specific knowledge, skills and competencies that meet current labour market needs.
  • Microcredentials can be completed before, during and after a university degree, or independently of it.
  • Example: Decarbonisation & Sustainability Management

University course – Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS)

  • ECTS credit points: 10 – 29
  • Duration: 1 semester
  • Certificate: Certificate of Advanced Studies
    from TU Graz
  • CAS programmes usually consist of several microcredentials and/or modules from university programmes and continuing education degree programmes that are coordinated in terms of subject matter and educational approach.
  • CAS programmes are aimed at working professionals with or without a university degree who wish to expand their professional opportunities or gain a subject-specific specialisation that matches their profession.
  • Example: Zero Carbon Management

University programme – Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS)

  • ECTS credit points: 30 – 59
  • Duration: 1 – 2 semesters
  • Certificate: Diploma of Advanced Studies from TU Graz 
  • This continuing education programme is aimed at working university graduates and other professionals with working experience who want to expand their skills in a specific field or in an interdisciplinary manner.
  • The respective admission requirements are determined by the programme director (e.g. extent of professional experience required).
  • Example: Digital Transformation

University programme - Academic Expert (AE)

  • ECTS credit points: At least 60
  • Duration: 2 – 3 semesters
  • Certificate: Academic title "Academic..." with an additional designation characteristic of the respective programme's content, e.g., "Academic Paper Engineer"
  • This programme is primarily aimed at professionals with work experience who wish to continue their education or specialise in their respective fields.
  • Admission requirements are determined by the programme director (e.g., required level of work experience). A prior academic degree is not necessarily required, but general university entrance qualifications are necessary.
  • Example: Paper and Pulp Technology

Continuing Education Degree Programmes – Continuing Education Master’s Degree Programme

  • ECTS credit points: 75 – 120
  • Duration: 3 – 5 semesters 
  • Degree: University degree “Master”, depending on the specific programme “Master of Science (Continuing Education, CE)”, “Executive Master of Business Administration (Executive MBA)” or “Master of Business Administration (MBA)”
  • Those who have completed at least a bachelor’s degree programme with 180 ECTS credit points and have at least two years of professional experience in the respective field can expand their knowledge with a continuing education master’s degree programme.
  • Continuing education master’s degree programmes are structured into modules. At TU Graz Life Long Learning, these modules are usually designed as microcredentials worth 5 ECTS credit points.
  • Example: Executive MBA Green and Digital Transition

Especially shorter course formats such as microcredentials provide an attractive opportunity to establish an initial building block of knowledge on a specific topic, which can be gradually expanded as needed.
