The 2024/25 winter semester begins on 1 October – and for many first-semester students, the very first day of classes is fast approaching. If you’re new to university, you’ll be wondering what’s really in store for new students. On the two days before the beginning of studies at TU Graz, the Welcome Days provide answers to basic organisational questions and – on the second day on campus – detailed information about the chosen degree programme as well as an opportunity to make contacts before the first day of studies.

Welcome to studying at university. Read the Welcome Days website and get all the information.
You will find the live presentations about all the services of TU Graz on 27 September in the TU Graz video portal TUbe. Here is the link to the live stream (starts at 9 am). It is not necessary to register for this event.
Collected Information on starting your studies including a booklet for new students can be found on the TU Graz website.

Starting your studies: This is how it works at TU Graz

These are some of the topics that await prospective students on Friday, 27 September under the motto online@home starting at 9 a.m. in a livestream:

  • Library:
The student ID card, which also serves as a library card, is the “admission ticket” for using the TU Graz library and a number of external libraries. Interested parties can find out more about the library services and offers in the presentation on the first Welcome Day.
  • Digital teaching:
The TU Graz TeachCenter is the central learning management system of TU Graz that digitally supports teaching and learning regardless of time and place. What you can do at the TeachCenter in addition to uploading and downloading teaching materials, AV media and quizzes, and what “digital teaching” at TU Graz actually means beyond that, is a main topic of the Welcome Days.
  • IT services:
Where can I find learning centres and student workstations on the TU Graz campus? As a student, how do I set up the university WLAN “eduroam”? How can I connect my computer to the TU Graz network via VPN from “outside”? These are all essential topics. There is also an IT support centre at TU Graz which provides help from Monday to Friday with allocating PIN codes, network access (WLAN, VPN), mail settings or setting up network drives. Contact and opening hours of the IT support can be found on the TU Graz website.
  • Studying abroad:
The International Office’s contribution to the Welcome Days will focus on mobility programmes, contact points at TU Graz and many other things. Information about studying abroad can also be found on the TU Graz website.
  • Language courses:
Every semester, TU Graz offers language courses in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese and Croatian at different levels. Students can find more information on the TU Graz website “Learning languages”.
In addition, students have the opportunity to expand their own skills in academic writing, learning, discussion techniques and rhetoric, conflict management, teamwork, intercultural social competence, self-organisation and more.
  • Social matters and the law regarding studying:
Who is entitled to a grant and for how long? What are the application deadlines and who is responsible for awarding grants and what actually happens if I change my degree programme? How long do students receive family benefit and what do they have to do in return? As a student, do I also have to take care of my own health and social insurance? And can the Student Union at TU Graz (HTU Graz for short) support students? A separate section of the Welcome Days is dedicated to these topics.

Second day: Study schedules and planning

On Monday, 30 September, everything will revolve around the various study programmes and tips for planning your studies. In addition, new students at TU Graz learn more about why it is worth attending an accompanying tutorial. There is lots of information about the Welcome Days on the Welcome Days website. Visitors can find out which lecture hall they should go to – all depending on their field of study.

In TU Graz News+Stories, students talk about their experience of starting their own studies at TU Graz. Click here for the Interview with Lisa Thieme and Lukas Müllwisch and for the Interview with Sara Krak and Lukas Pointner. In the TU Graz Blog you will find helpful and exciting blog posts – from literature management and alternative ways of travelling abroad to meeting points and study areas at TU Graz.

From 18 to 19 September 2024 on campus, the “International Welcome Days” offer international students starting an English-language Master’s or doctoral programme at TU Graz an English-language introduction to student life at TU Graz in the 2024/25 academic year. This is additionally supplemented by information videos available on the Welcome Days website. Registration is neccessary to attend the International Welcome Days on campus.
