Welcome Activity

The Welcome Activity marks the beginning of your time abroad at TU Graz. In this session, you receive your TU Graz Card and your personal Welcome Bag. The Welcome Activity is a fun get-together where you can meet your new peers for the first time and get to know each other better while playing some icebreaker games. A great opportunity to start your exchange experience and make new friends!

In the end, the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) section of TU Graz presents their programme for the ongoing semester.

Orientation Session

The Orientation Session is held in hybrid form (on site and online). It consists of three parts and participation in all three parts is required, as different topics are covered in each session.

There, you receive crucial advice in terms of red tape and administration with the authorities in Graz and Austria. We explain all health insurance matters, how to register for courses at TU Graz and other universities, and talk about German courses, sports courses, and public transport. You will receive answers to all questions that may arise during your first days in Graz.

Intercultural Awareness Session (ICAS)

In this interactive session we focus on the impact of culture on our lives. We are going to look at cultural differences and similarities. The aim of this session is to prepare our incoming students for their stay in Austria at TU Graz and provide them with tools and strategies for coping with new and perhaps difficult situations when studying abroad.

Academic Advising

TU Graz provides special academic guidance for incoming exchange students: We offer a special academic advising unit, given by the Departmental Coordinators of the specific field of study at TU Graz. The Departmental Coordinator will explain how things work in their faculty, and offers to discuss your personal learning agreement in order to achieve all scheduled ECTS credits. When there is no special unit offered (due to few fellow students), you are invited to see the Departmental Coordinator during his or her office hours. So, every exchange student will benefit from an academic advising.

Campus Survival Tour

Incoming students are grouped by their fields of studies at TU Graz and are guided by an Austrian fellow student who has passed the previous semester in a study abroad exchange. You will be shown all interesting sights on the 3 campuses of TU Graz, according to your needs in your fields of study. You will know where to print and copy, how to activate your student ID card, where to find the student union and the computer labs. But we will also talk about public transport, bikes and traffic, food and prices, opening hours and bank accounts. This tour ends up individually in a students pub (sadly, at your own charge).

Welcome Reception

All international incoming exchange students are invited to an official welcome event, which takes place in the ceremony hall of TU Graz. The director of the International Office will welcome them, and then we will enjoy food and drinks from an Austrian buffet.
