Languages Offered

The Languages offered for students currently include English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Croatian and Austrian Sign Language at different levels.

Course registration can be accessed via the TUGRAZonline system. Students at TU Graz can complete language courses as elective subjects. As a rule, 2 ECTS Credits are awarded per 2-hour course.

  • A1: Breakthrough – zero to very basic knowledge
  • A2: Waystage – basic knowledge
  • B1: Threshold – basic to intermediate knowledge
  • B2: Vantage – intermediate knowledge
  • C1: Effectiveness – good knowledge
  • C2 Mastery – very good knowledge

Structure of the language courses

English

Refresher 0, 1, 2 – Refresher course for students with lower-intermediate skills

  • B1/2: basic Austrian abitur (Matura) or equivalent skills
  • B2/1: Austrian abitur (Matura) or equivalent skills


Intermediate 1, 2, Intermediate Oral Skills – intermediate and upper-intermediate skills

  • B2/2: Simulation of vocational situations, general technical notions, presentation and discussion skills


Perfection Level 1, 2, Advanced Oral Skills – upper-intermediate and advanced skills

  • C1/1: Presentation techniques for longer oral and written presentations, reading more complex technical texts, leading discussions and meetings (Professional Meetings), specific focus depending on students’ needs

Spanish, Italian, French

Elementary 1 and 2 (A1) – Beginner Level

  • A1/1: no prior knowledge
  • A1/2: very basic knowledge (1 Semester)


Pre-intermediate 1 and 2 (A2) – Expanding beginner level

  • A2/1: prior knowledge of 2 semesters (A1)
  • A2/2: prior knowledge of 3 semesters (A2/1)


Intermediate 1 and 2 (B1) – Expanding communication skills

  • B1: prior knowledge of 4 semesters (A2)

Portuguese, Chinese and Russian

Elementary 1 and 2 (A1) – Beginner Level

  • A1/1: no prior knowledge
  • A1/2: very basic knowledge (1 Semester)


Pre-intermediate 1 and 2 (A2) – Expanding beginner level

  • A2/1: prior knowledge of 2 semesters (A1)
  • A2/2: prior knowledge of 3 semesters (A2/1)

Croatian, Austrian Sign Language

Elementary 1 and 2 (A1) – Beginner Level

  • A1/1: no prior knowledge
  • A1/2: very basic knowledge (1 Semester)
