Dejan Marković combines practice and theory in equal measure. He is an artist, and researcher, but also works in an institutional context. In the scope of a “Bar Talk” at the Künstlerhaus, he will present one of his recent projects and engage in discussion afterward. The work of Marković, who was born in Belgrade, thematically circles present-day constructions of reality which are ever more influenced by digital technical developments, also touching on their various planes, questions, and problems. Starting with his current working context together with his direct approach to scientific expertise and professionalized knowledge production that is reflected in his latest works, Dejan Marković will talk about the possibility of a reflexion through context switch and different modi of visualization.
His most recent long-term artistic examinations increasingly deal with an exploration of power relations between politics, technology and society. Marković’s installative and discursive projects tend to densify the seemingly contrary – analogue and digital – perceptions of knowledge generation and knowledge management, while also critically examining museal exhibition space under these auspices.
Afterwards, visitors are invited to share a glass of Țuică with us at the bar by Peles Empire.
Dejan Marković is a visual artist, lecturer, and research associate in the art-based research projects “The Incomputable” and “Curatorial Design” (PEEK FWF) at the Institute for Contemporary Art (IZK) at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz), Austria. Marković studied visual arts at the University of Arts in Belgrade and then completed the master’s program Art in Context at Berlin University of the Arts.
