Insurance Supervision Law

The university course in Insurance Supervision Law complements a basic mathematical education, providing students with knowledge about the legal framework of the insurance industry and how it is regulated.

This course has been developed to cover basic aspects of the insurance supervision legal framework. Interested graduates of mathematics studies who are specializing in actuarial and financial mathematics are especially encouraged to take part in this course to legally complement their professional qualifications.
The course content has been chosen to meet the current educational requirements for actuarial education in Austria. Graduates of this university course will be able to reflect on their professional experience and to expand their practical knowledge.

Contents

  • Attendance phase: Participants receive theoretical knowledge that covers basic aspects of insurance supervision law (regulations for different forms of insurers and types of insurance, solvency, supervision) and international standards.
  • Supplementary synchronous online units: Participants have the opportunity to ask individual questions in plenary sessions with the lecturer.
  • Practice: Participants can deepen their acquired knowledge by applying this knowledge to concrete problems from the everyday practice.

After successfully completing the university course, graduates will be able to,

  • reflect on basic knowledge about the Insurance Supervision Act (ISA).
  • classify and compare the European internal insurance market and European standards.

Target group

The course has been developed for:

  • Graduates of a mathematics degree programme who plan to complete the actuarial education programme.
  • Employees who work in the areas of insurance, consulting, company auditing, or for the Financial Market Authority
  • Professionals with an interest in the legal framework of the insurance industry

Successful graduates of this university course complete one of the legal components of the actuarial education programme.

Prerequisite for admission to this university course:

  • A target group-specific educational background (e.g. enrolment in a mathematics programme) or
  • Proof of relevant professional activity in the finance or insurance industry.

Admission decisions are made by the course head based on the qualifications submitted.
