On average, students at TU Graz devote around 35 hours to their studies, and this number can increase during exam periods. Those who are also pursuing high-performance sport find it difficult to reconcile their training and competition schedules with courses and examination dates. This should now become easier: In the summer term of 2025, TU Graz will become a partner university of the non-profit organisation KADA, which is committed to reconciling top-level sport and education. Student athletes will receive individual support with their semester and career planning as part of the free KADA support programme ‘Studium Leistung Sport (SLS)’. TU Graz promotes the compatibility of sport and studies with the best degree of flexibility in its teaching programme.

‘I am delighted that TU Graz is becoming a partner university of the KADA support programme Studium Leistung Sport,’ says Stefan Vorbach, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at TU Graz. ‘Successful studies and top-class sport do not have to be mutually exclusive - on the contrary: both require a high level of motivation, perseverance and determination. As a KADA partner university, we can now support our students even better and offer them the flexibility they need to achieve their goals both in their studies and in sport.’

The KADA support programme at TU Graz is coordinated by Andreas Wimmer, Professor at the Institute of Thermodynamics and Sustainable Propulsion Systems and an active volleyball player himself. ‘A technical degree programme is very demanding and requires a lot of time and commitment. To make sure that the respective students can still successfully pursue competitive sport, we will work with KADA to give them as much support as possible and, in consultation with the lecturers, ensure the most flexible teaching arrangements possible,’ says Andreas Wimmer.

Students at TU Graz who meet the KADA qualification criteria can take part in the Studium Leistung Sport (SLS) support programme.
