What and where to eat and drink on the TU Graz campuses

Café Mercato, a mix of Mediterranean café and restaurant, invites you to linger – like many restaurants and cafés on or near the three TU Graz campus locations. (Image source: Fotogenia – TU Graz)

When you spend all day on campus, you are bound to get hungry or thirsty at some point. In this blog post I will try to recommend some of the best places to grab a quick bite or a cup of coffee and e

As Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) has three campus locations, I will deal with each location separately and link to the appropriate other articles.

Campus Alte Technik – Old Campus

Another place worth mentioning is certainly Café Tribeka, located at Technikerstraße 13, just across the street from Campus Alte Technik. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a sandwich, a hot meal or a cake, all whilst having access to tables big enough to study at. A win-win situation for sure!

If on the other hand you want to satisfy a bigger hunger, I recommend you check out Bar28, which is located at Gartengasse 28, yet again right across from the old campus. This is also an amazing place if you would like to enjoy a drink with your colleagues after the study day is over, since there are group tables available.
In case you are just looking for a quick snack and need to know where the nearest supermarket is, there are three options available all within five to ten minute walk from the old campus:

  1. SPAR at Dietrichsteinplatz 12
  2. SPAR at Maiffredygasse 8
  3. SPAR at Rechbauerstraße 38

Campus Neue Technik – New Campus

You can find information on available vending machines, the TU Graz Rooftop Cafeteria and the M-Café in the article "TU Graz: Food and drink at Campus Neue Technik".

When I have lectures at Campus Neue Technik, my personal favourite place to eat is definitely TU Graz’s Rooftop canteen at Stremayrgasse 16. Not only does it offer an amazing view and affordable food, but it has also become a great place to socialise and spend time with friends and colleagues during weekdays. There are always several good food options which I think is a huge plus as it keeps things interesting throughout the semester.

Students love the TU Graz Rooftop canteen because of its spacious terrace with a view over the roofs of Graz. (Image source: Lunghammer – TU Graz)

On the other hand, if you crave an amazing burger or a pizza at an affordable price, I recommend North & South at Stremayrgasse 15. It is cozy and very close to any building on the new campus, which makes it a great spot for lunch. It is also a great hang out since it offers some fun activities such as table football.
The closest supermarket is either SPAR at Dietrichsteinplatz 12 or SPAR at Rechbauerstraße 38, depending on where you are.

For burgers or pizza at affordable prices, try North & South near the new Campus. (Image source: Perinić – TU Graz)

Campus Inffeld

You can find information on available vending machines, Trudl’s Noodle Truck and the Inffeldgasse canteen in the article "TU Graz: Food and drink at Campus Inffeld".

Since I study mechanical engineering at TU Graz, Campus Inffeldgasse is the campus where I spend most of my time, and the TU Graz Mensa (canteen) at the study center is my absolute favourite spot for lunch. The location is very convenient for everyone on the campus, and in my experience the food is always both good and affordable.

Not far away, at Sandgasse 34, the cosy Café Mercato invites you to take a break. This latest addition to the cafés on Campus Inffeld is something between a Mediterranean café and a restaurant.

Another popular spot is definitely Best Food Grill 5 at Münzgrabenstraße 112, which is a small fast-food restaurant offering everything from pizza to kebab. This is a great place to grab a quick bite on the go. Fast-food restaurant Antalya on Petersgasse 106 offers a similar selection of food at a similarly affordable price.
But if I’m craving a good cup of coffee and some pastries, my favourite choice is MARTIN AUER located on Marburger Straße 10. It is a few minutes walk from the campus, but when I have a longer break, I love to go there and study, since it is usually not that crowded on weekdays.
The nearest supermarkets are SPAR at Moserhofgasse 42 and BILLA at Münzgrabenstraße 92e.

You can find a menu overview for the week in various locations in the three TU Graz campuses on the website https://today.tugraz.at/.
