As part of this newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), the partners are joining forces to put innovative approaches to sustainable construction into practice. Together, they want to demonstrate how sustainability innovations can be realised in the largely standardised planning and construction process. Their vision is one of zero-emission buildings in which the total amount of energy required for construction, operation and dismantling is taken into account in equal measure. The initial focus is on integrating sustainable solutions into upcoming construction projects at TU Graz and a visionary flagship project of international visibility being developed in parallel.
“For Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) and Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft, the implementation of effective climate protection measures is a central concern and a key strategic goal. With this MoU, we are fulfilling our social responsibility and reinforcing our joint vision of the holistic design of buildings that cause no or only very low net greenhouse gas emissions over their entire life cycle,” agreed BIG Managing Director Christine Dornaus and TU Graz Rector Horst Bischof on the occasion of the signing of the memorandum.
This goal of “zero-emission buildings” is to be achieved through the use of natural building materials with a low CO2-equivalent footprint, optimised construction processes or the implementation of construction methods that enable a circular economy. Digital methods are used in planning, construction and operation, and the integration of renewable energy and storage technologies minimises heating, cooling and electrical energy requirements.
With these ambitious goals, the partners are setting a milestone in the field of sustainable construction and paving the way for scalable, forward-looking solutions.
