Fun and the spirit of sports: internationals running

07/05/2017 | TU Graz news | University

By Ute Wiedner

5 teams of international students and staff represent TU Graz in the Uni Graz Sports Institute’s relay. Whether you like sports or you hate them: being there is everything.

13 countries were represented in TU Graz’s international team at the University of Graz Sports Institute’s Kleeblattlauf. Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Croatia, Macedonia, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine, USA and Vietnam.
Even if the summer weather in Graz can be a bit unpredictable, international students and staff of TU Graz can rely on the TU Graz’s Welcome Center. The high-energy team regularly organises get-togethers and jaunts in Graz’s city life – for instance, recently on the occasion of the annual Kleeblattlauf (clover-leaf run), a relay race organised by the University of Graz Sports Institute (USI).

An absolutely positive and fascinating experience in a great, multicultural team. Thanks for the great organisation! (Maria, Greece)

Leisure time in Graz

Not only were passionate runners for TU Graz wearing colourful Welcome Center T-shirts standing on the starting line. People with no running experience at all rose to the challenge and were proud of their achievements. A band and a huge number of young and old fans provided the great atmosphere. The weather rewarded the 21 TU Graz runners from 13 different countries just as much as it did all the other participants. The race didn’t turn into a festival of mud, the rain only came later. Being there just once during your stay in Graz is worth it. Team spirit is what counts during the relay – and fun.

I stepped in at the last minute to take the place of an absent participant. Actually, I’m not a runner, I just wanted to support the Welcome Center. But I then had so much fun in the race! The team spirit energised me; I felt like a real athlete! I’m definitely going to do it again next year. (Julie, Ukraine)

After the run just means before the next one: many people get a taste for it. The Kleeblattlauf takes place once a year – always at the end of the semester.

Legendary party

If you haven’t had enough after the run, you can join the crowd of the legendary USI Party. Over the years, a small after-show party has developed into THE student party of Europe – a real 12-hour party marathon with fun, sport and action for everyone.
