The Innovation Marathon is an annual fixture on the TU Austria agenda. TU Austria – the association of the three Austrian universities of technology University of Leoben, TU Graz and TU Wien – wants to show what students are capable of in terms of creativity, professional competence and innovative strength.

Digital premiere

The fifth Innovation Marathon starts on Thursday, August 27th at 12 midday and this year it offers a novelty due to corona. Like the entire European Forum Alpbach and the Technology Talks, the Innovation Marathon will be a virtual event, connecting participants on several continents. The basic principle remains the same: multidisciplinary and international teams of students work on real tasks from Austrian companies in exactly 24 hours and present their innovative solutions at the end of the marathon.

This time 50 students will participate, working in ten teams of five via the videoconferencing tool Zoom with the innovation coaches as well as with employees of Liebherr, ams, AVL, Philips and voestalpine Wire Technology and solving real challenges from these companies. The results will be presented on Friday at 14:00.

Further information about the TU Austria Innovation Marathon can be found online at www.innovations-marathon.org.

The students and the public will only learn about the concrete tasks at the beginning of the Innovation Marathon. This year, the tasks range from quality assurance in the supply chain to sensor technology for health care and innovative gamification strategies. As in previous years, the Austrian Patent Office will again be available to the teams with advice and assistance and will take over the patent search on the basis of the initial ideas.

24 hours airtime

This year, the virtual concept allows the Innovation Marathon to be followed entirely live for the first time and independent of location online. The event will be broadcast by the event software Hopin.

For 90 euros participants can access the entire programme of the 12-day Digital Conference of the European Forum Alpbach, including the digital sessions of the Technology Talks.

Tickets are available under the following link: https://2020.alpbach.org/ticket

The Alpbach Technology Talks are organized by AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and ORF Radio Österreich 1 in cooperation with the European Forum Alpbach.

Our partner ams has published a news release on their task.
