Welcome to the Institute of Thermal Turbomachinery and Machine Dynamics. The field of research covers many areas involving steam and gas turbines as well as machine dynamics. The current focus is mainly on the turbines, their efficiency, noise development, combustion and structural integrity. This page provides information about the institute, the capabilities, the courses offered and the actual research topics. We hope you will find the information you are looking for. If not, please feel free to inquire by email or call us.
Congratulations to Dr. Mattia Graiff who received his PhD on 16 October 2024. He worked on the test rig integration and experimental analyis of the flow within a turbine vane frame
Robert Krewinkel was born in Heerlen (The Netherlands) in 1979. He studied Mechanical Engineering and Anglistics at the RWTH Aachen in Germany. In 2012 he received his PhD on the “Conjugate Calculation of Effusion Cooled Multi-Layer Systems for Gas Turbines”. Since 2013 he has worked in different fields on the development of gas turbines at the MAN Energy Solutions SE in Oberhausen. During this time, he worked amongst others as team leader for cooling, secondary air and thermal systems and was responsible for research.
Since 1st October Robert Krewinkel is head of the Institute of Thermal Turbomachinery and Machine Dynamic.
