Job Description

We are looking for a person with an excellent record of scientific accomplishments who will represent the field of Computational Medicine in research and teaching, and complement and diversify existing research strengths of the department. The new professor will teach in the Bachelor’s, Master's, and PhD programs in Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science, and be an engaged mentor for our students. At the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering, undergraduate courses are taught in German or English, graduate courses are taught in English. In addition, this person will actively participate in academic self-administration. 

The applicant's research program should aim to advance healthcare by developing and/or applying theoretical and/or computer-based technologies to diagnose, manage, monitor, and understand human diseases. This includes, but is not limited to, computational models in any area of  biomedicine, such as molecular biology, oncology, morphology, and pathology.

The professorship will be part of the Institute of Biomedical Informatics (BIOINFO), where the current research groups specialize in developing and applying bioinformatics approaches to address key problems in genomics. The institute is one of five dedicated biomedical engineering institutes within the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering.

The successful candidate is expected to collaborate within the Institute of Biomedical Informatics and the department, and we also expect engagement in interdisciplinary initiatives such as BioTechMed Graz  and the new Cori Institute for Molecular and Computational Metabolism of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Requirements

  • A completed doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant field.
  • A relevant habilitation (venia docendi) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Excellent scientific achievements.
  • Excellent didactic and pedagogical skills.
  • Management and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent command of English and command of German or the willingness to acquire it.

Selection Criteria

  • International experience and integration in the international research community.
  • Experience with acquisition of research grants and/or industrial collaboration.
  • Gender and diversity competences
