Christian Brügel, Thomas Heinrich, and Julia Ober win first prize of the Concrete Student Trophy with their project "Capa Verde". The task for this year's competition was to draft a preliminary design for a high-rise building with additional greenery for the urban lakeside district of Aspern. The resource-efficient design from the winning team was convincing due to the innovative façade design, which includes openings in carved-out panes to accommodate larger trees. The greenery and façade structure improve the environmental quality in the residential open spaces while reducing overheating in the summer months. The jury, chaired by architect Silja Tillner, also praised the aesthetic quality of the project, as it "blends unobtrusively, yet very elegantly, into the prominent lakeside location in terms of urban planning, and it is a very attractive residential tower".
The design was submitted as part of the course "Design of Specialised Topics", which was held by Gernot Parmann (Institute of Structural Design), Dirk Schlicke, Thomas Laggner, and Christina Krenn (Institute of Structural Concrete) in the summer semester of 2020.
Nebojša Amidžić, Maximilian Eckart, and Katharina Anna Wallner received the recognition award for their project "Green Lakeview Tower". The jury emphasised the bold and expressive form of the building, the consideration of the UHPC construction, and the generous green spaces integrated into the design.
