Together with the launch of GAM20 “The Infraordinary”, guest edited by Matthias Castorph and Julian Müller, the faculty members celebrated the 20th anniversary of GAM - Graz Architecture Magazine on May 6, 2024 at the Grazer Rechbauerkino. GAM executive editor Daniel Gethmann presented a retrospective of the magazine, reflecting on past issues and thanking the founding members Urs Hirschberg, Günter Koberg, Jörn Köppler, Roger Riewe as well as the many guest editors who have shaped the magazine from the 5th issue onwards with their focus on research and teaching. They include Ernst Hubeli (GAM.05 – „Urbanity not Energy“), Harald Kloft (GAM.06 „Nonstandard Structures“), Klaus K. Loenhart (GAM.07 – „Zero Landscape: Unfolding Agencies of Landscape“), Hans Gangoly (GAM.08 – „Dense Cites: Architecture for Living Together“), Roger Riewe (GAM.09 – “Walls: Spatial Sequences”), Urs Hirschberg (GAM10 – “Intuition and the Machine”), Daniel Gethmann and Petra Eckhard (GAM11 – “Archiscripts”), Stefan Peters and Andreas Trummer (GAM12 – “Structural Affairs”), Irmgard Frank, Franziska Hederer and Claudia Gerhäusser (GAM13 – “Spatial Expeditions”), Milica Tomić and Dubravka Sekulić (GAM14 – “Exhibiting Matters”), Aglaée Degros and Eva Schwab (GAM15 – “Territorial Justice”), Andreas Lichtblau and Sigrid Verhovsek (GAM16 – “gewohnt: un/common”), Tom Kaden (GAM17 – “Wood: Rethinking Material”), Petra Petersson and Christina Linortner (GAM18 – “Beyond the Institution: Transforming the Learning Environment in Architectural Education”), Alex Lehnerer, Anne Femmer, Florian Summa (GAM19 – “Professionalism”), as well as Matthias Castorph and Julian Müller (GAM20 – “The Infraordinary”). Additionally, a vote of thanks was extended to the current members of the core editorial team, including Urs Hirschberg (Editor), Petra Eckhard (Managing Editor), Andreas Lechner (Book Review Editor) and Petra Petersson (Faculty News Editor), as well as the magazine's sponsors, Graz University of Technology and the Styrian Regional Government (Department 9 - Culture, Europe, Sport and Department 16 - Transport and Regional Building Construction). Guests of honor sitting in the front row of the cinema auditorium included Vice-Rectors Michael Monsberger and Stefan Vorbach, as well as the municipal councilor Alexandra Würz-Stalder, who supported the event with a buffet donation on behalf of the Mayor of the City of Graz.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the new GAM-Website was also launched, making many GAM contributions available as open access publications and gathering the diverse GAM-Content over the last twenty years in an extensive research archive, which includes research articles, case studies, interviews, photo series, book reviews and faculty news. Free and instant access to all editorials and selected articles and interviews supports a global exchange of knowledge within an academic research community.
