Since the onset of their activity in 1987, Riegler Riewe Architekten have pursued, with convincing continuity and decisiveness, a path of denying the pictorial. The architects focus on user-oriented yet usage-neutral spatial structures and strive to create a questing, “purposeless” architecture that is nevertheless precise.
A selection of the projects from the last ten years once again confirms this stance. Buildings and urban-planning designs have arisen that embody the “ordinary” along with a kind of undetermined ambiguity—a polyvalent quality which, on all scales, is oriented not to form but to action.
Eva Guttmann, freelance publicist with a focus on architecture, studied political sciences, history, and architecture and was the director of HDA - House of Architecture from 2010 to 2013.
Roger Riewe has headed the Institute of Architecture Technology at Graz University of Technology since 2001. He founded, together with Florian Riegler, the internationally renown and multiple award-winning architectural firm Riegler Riewe Architekten in 1987.
