The phenolic structure of lignin renders it a potential base chemical in a biobased economy. Lignin isolation from process streams of the pulp and paper industry is state of the art. Lignin disintegration using organosolv processes leads to a more natural lignin that can at least potentially can more easily be implemented in existing processing routes. From special interest is its utilization in epoxy resins.
The present project targets the development respectively optimization of an organosolv process to disintegrate lignin with defined properties for its utilization in epoxy resins.
