New employee David Cardona Vasquez

David Cardona Vasquez started as a new university assistant at IEE on November 2nd.

Since November 2nd a new member from Colombia has joined our team at the IEE: his name is David Cardona Vásquez. David has a Mag. Eng. in Informatics, a B. Sc. in Economics and has experience in data analysis, economic modelling and regulation. In his country he worked in the banking and energy sectors developing models to support decision making and writing market reports and analyses. For some years he was at the Colombian Independent System Operator (XM) where he worked on proposing new regulations and improving existing ones to enhance market efficiency; there he also led the Analytics and Market Development team, improving the market information platform and building data-oriented products (e.g.: an API for data retrieval) and applying machine learning techniques to improve operational efficiency. He knows about the Latin-American energy markets and has studied some of the European and North American ones like EEX, Nord Pool Spot and PJM. David's research interests include: mathematical and statistical applications to energy markets and power systems, microeconomics and econometrics appplied to energy systems and sector-wide regulation (e.g.: industrial organization) and is interested in solving problems that lie at the cross-roads of energy, computer science and economics.
