The aim of this study is to determine the need for flexibility in the Austrian electricity system by 2030.

Austrian and European decarbonization goals increasingly focus on the electrification of various sectors, such as transport, heating, and industrial processes. National energy policy directives, including the expansion targets set forth in the Renewable Expansion Act (EAG), emphasize the promotion of renewable energy sources like wind, photovoltaics, hydropower, and biomass. However, these plans lack a specific definition of capacity targets for storage technologies, both in terms of power and energy. In the context of this study, the IEE is responsible for providing scientific guidance and is particularly involved in quality assurance, support with parameterization, and the analysis of results.
