A group from the IEE had the pleasure of visiting Zürich, because we participated in an inspiring energy system modeling workshop at ETH Zürich.
Energy system models are faced with complexities in the domains Uncertainty & Risk, Technology Modeling and Time & Space.
In a two-day workshop hosted by Reliability and Risk Engineering (RRE) Lab from ETH Zürich provided an excellent platform to dive into the latest advancements in energy system modeling from ETH Zürich and Universiteit Utrecht.
We were thrilled to also share insights into our own developments and engage in stimulating discussions with fellow experts in the field.
Time & Space:
Sonja Wogrin motivated the domains Time & Space and presented cuting-edge research from the ongoing Net-Zero-Opt project on basis-oriented time series aggregation funded by the European Research Council.
David Cardona-Vásquez Cardona (Time) and Benjamin Stöckl (Space) presented their related research.
Technology Modeling:
Thomas Klatzer presented his work on Tight MIP Formulation for Pipeline Gas Flow With Linepack (arXiv), which contributes to improving computational performance of integrated power and gas/hydrogen energy system models.
Thank you to everyone who made this workshop so enriching and enjoyable! Special thanks to Alissa Ganter and Jacob Mannhardt for organizing this wonderful event. We had a great time with wonderful winter weather and delicious cheese fondue.
Grüezi and we are very much looking forward to the next workshop.
