Exhibition Chronology amm – architektInnen machen möbel
The invitation to the Spring Fair in Graz came at the last minute: with only three days to prepare (including setup), the team of Judith Augustinovič and Rainer Eberl from the Institute of Spatial Design set new standards. Large-format pictures featured representations of amm Möbel—designers, student assistants, and the workshop dog Coca—as seen through the lens of Otto Kaltner, master student and photographer, whose lounge chair was also present. Mounted on plywood boards from the Lichtlabor, the images—and of course also the inviting furniture open for seating—captured the attention of the fair visitors. During the Graz Month of Design, amm moved into the InOptik space on Kaiser-Josef-Markt. Almost simultaneously, Design.Ve opened in Venice, a design festival held every two years, where amm introduced themselves to an international audience, especially visitors to the Biennale di Architettura 2018, at an atelier in Cannaregio.
For amm, the semester began in the scope of an exhibition at the Graz gallery of Gebhart Blazek, who is internationally renowned as a specialist for Moroccan carpets. After this, amm traveled to Vienna for Design Week, to Kortrijk in Belgium for WO18 – We Are The Next Generation, and to Feldkirch in Vorarlberg for POTENTIALe. Many exciting critiques accompanied the exhibition activities. The students were therefore able to gain practical experience in order to directly tap into improvement potential for the prototypes, pilot series, and small batches, and thus also to initiate step by step the development of market-ready furniture designed by these up-and-coming architects.
