Georg Gescheidt studied chemistry in Freiburg i. Br., Germany. He completed his Dipl. Chem. degree with a thesis in the field of solid-state chemistry. Then he moved to Basel (Switzerland) where he did his PhD in the field of Organic Radical Ions and EPR spectroscopy (with F. Gerson). Then he worked two years as editor at “Helvetica Chimica Acta”. After accomplishing his habilitation at the university of Basel (1996, mentored by Prof. A.G. Davies, UCL) and substituting a chair of Physical Chemistry, he moved to his present position as a full professor of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at Graz University of Technology in 2003.
His research interests are in the fields of (photo-initiated) radical polymerization, antioxidants, mechanism of organic reactions via radicals, electron donor and acceptor compounds and catalysis (Cu(II) complexes). The Gescheidt group uses (time-resolved) EPR, CIDNP and optical (LFP) spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and theoretical calculations as tools.
