Sensing of aerosols is becoming a major challenge due to the increasing awareness of their impact on security and safety related to human health and environment. Furthermore, advancement in nanotechnologies also introduce nano-particle engineering in different aspects of the warfare and weapon systems. Aerosols are also often generated in the battlefields, during natural disasters and radioactive material emissions. In spite of recent efforts, compact, portable, robust devices performing efficient detection and analysis of aerosols in the field are missing. The project shall search for new ways for in-field/in-situ detection and characterization of aerosols, with high relevance to CBRN agents, environmental protection, energy security and battlefield safety.
