The Monoglott Reiseführer Schwarzlsee was produced during the summer semester of 2023 at the Institute of Design in Existing Structures and Architectural Heritage Protection under the direction of Matthias Castorph and Michael Hafner and offers tips, must-sees, and to-dos around Lake Schwarzl in Graz’s southern periphery. This recreation area extends around several bathing beaches that were once used for gravel extraction. It is a place that does not follow any clear logic but is rather characterized by pluralistic design and a diversity of architectural styles. In chapters such as “Art and Culture,” “Roads and History,” “Food and Drink,” “Activities,” and “Practical Hints,” this book seeks to approach the essence of this special place without prejudice in the form of a classic travel guide.
