GAVe - Graz Adaptive Traffic Control System
Keywords: Adaptive traffic control, urban road network, traffic simulation, emission modelling
The city of Graz has implemented the adaptive traffic control system MOTION of Siemens in three regions of the city. Unlike actuated control of traffic lights adaptive control systems not only measure traffic flow at the intersection itself but consider the general traffic situation in order to generate most suitable control programs. Since pollution is of major concern in the city this research is focusing to improve parameter settings of the existing system in order to minimize pollution and keeping traffic flow at the same time. In order to solve this optimization task software interfaces between the emission model PHEM, the microscopic traffic flow simulator VISSIM and the adaptive control system MOTION are being developed. The system will be applied in a test case in the northern part of Graz.
