Statistics Austria has prepared two detailed Q&As and these deal generally with AMDC and the application criteria, as well as one on the online working environment. Since both are unfortunately only available in German, we have listed a short selection of important questions here:
The AMDC is part of Statistics Austria and offers data protection-compliant access to microdata by means of a virtual desktop infrastructure.
No, every research project at the AMDC incurs costs that have to be paid either by the institute or by a project.
By default, R and an RStudio developer environment, Python with a Spyder developer environment, STATA or SPSS for data processing in the protected virtual infrastructure. In addition, software products such as LibreOffice, Jupyter Notebook and text editors can be used. Further software products can be installed via an order (Service A120), provided that it is technically or licence-legally possible. The SAS programme cannot be made available for technical reasons!
The contribution of own microdata is possible for a research project within the framework of a corresponding service. Statistics Austria may only grant another scientific institution access to these data with the consent of the scientific institution contributing the data.
No, under no circumstances do the data leave Statistics Austria. This would be a serious criminal act. The research results are checked by Statistik Austria by means of an obligatory control to ensure that they do not violate data protection law.
