WS 24/25 WF - Spaces of Mobility

Decarbonising our mobility is an absolute necessity to combat the climate crisis. At the same time, this needed change in our mobility offers the opportunity to significantly improve the quality of life in our cities. Both can be achieved by reorganising, changing the function and justly share of mobility spaces. Yet such projects often fail to be implemented due to bureaucratic as well as financial or practical obstacles. Both the federal government and the province of Styria have placed greater emphasis on and promoted active mobility in recent years.

The walking strategy “Just a walk away” published by the province of Styria in 2023 launched the promotion of walking concepts and master plans for walking in Styrian municipalities. The aim of the funding isto make walking more attractive and promote it in the municipalities.15 pilot municipalities have already drawn up such a concept and are currently in the development and implementation phase. In the “Spaces of Mobility” course, we will look at the individual concepts of the pilot municipalities, describe our findings and thus create a catalog of implementations and measures in the cities. In the course of the semester, each student will prepare a project analysis, present it and prepare it graphically for the catalog.
