Welcome at the Institute of Organic Chemistry
Two topics are at the center of the research activities of the Institute of Organic Chemistry.
On the one hand new synthetic methods are developed, where enzymes and metal complexes function as catalysts. On the other hand, functional organic molecules are synthesized, which are used for the investigation of biological processes (“Chemical Biology”).
In addition to grant-funded basic and applied research projects and academic cooperations, the Institute of Organic Chemistry also pursues collaborative research activities with industrial partners.
Teaching and training at our Institute includes the theoretical fundamentals of Organic Chemistry in basic and advanced lectures, and courses to specialized topics of modern synthetic organic chemistry, synthetic strategies and analytics. Several laboratory courses are offered to teach standard practices and methods, and give the students insight into day-to-day modern research work.
In cooperation with the Gesellschaft Österreichicher Chemiker (GÖCH), guest lectures are organized regularly.
