AVESTRA - Analysis of autonomous transport systems in urban areas
Keywords: autonomous transportation systems, traffic volume, demographic change
The project AVESTRA covers the analysis of autonomous transportation systems (ATS) which address the upcoming urban traffic issues in terms of increasing traffic volume, demographic change, safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability. These systems combine the advantages of private and public transport, and provide multimodal and intermodal mobility. The objective of this project is to analyze ATS in terms of social, environmental and economic aspects. In a further step, it is investigated in which way existing roadways and vehicle technologies can be used for ATS and which kind of new vehicle and infrastructure developments are necessary. In addition, the capacity of ATS compared to conventional motorized private transport is determined. The final step of the project is to create a proposal for further actions. The proposal includes the required technological developments and research of a follow-up project.
