The girls of the CoMaed summer course learned how to plan a climate-friendly and cost-optimized energy system.

An exciting and educational day awaited the participants of the computer courses for girls (CoMaed) at Graz University of Technology. As part of their visit to us at the Institute of Electricity Economics and Energy Innovation, the technology-loving girls were able to plan and optimize an energy system independently. The focus was on both climate friendliness and cost optimization.

The girls, who are between the ages of 10 and 16 and are taking part in the program, were first given an introduction to the basics of energy system planning. With enthusiasm and zeal, they set about the task of developing an energy system that is both sustainable and economically viable. Supported by experts from the institute, they learned how to use renewable energies efficiently and minimize overall costs.

The practice-oriented workshop enabled the participants to gain a realistic insight into the challenges and opportunities of the modern energy industry.

After successfully planning and optimizing their energy systems, the participants were given an introduction to the concept of energy communities. These innovative communities enable citizens to generate energy together and make optimal use of local resources.

With such initiatives, TU Graz is making an important contribution to promoting girls in STEM subjects and preparing the next generation for the challenges of the energy transition.
