WF: Chrono Urbanism - Consider[re]ing Time

The importance of time in urban planning has been overlooked for decades, but now it presents an array of tools to address current global urban challenges. Fluctuations in climate, population dynamics, and economic shifts demand a new level of adaptability in planning and transforming our neighborhoods to ensure sustainability and resilience against future changes. Concepts, like the 15min.City explore the relations between Space, as the hardware, and time as the software of cities.

However, in this seminar, Chrono Urbanism also explores how time can revolutionize contemporary urban planning, shifting focus from static master plans to flexible transition planning. Temporary Urbanism introduces innovative ideas through short-term real-time interventions. The different rhythms of the city at day and at night will be investigated to find even more relations between space and it´s timing.

During the seminar, students will research and discuss various methods of integrating time into planning processes, envisioning where these concepts could be applied. Ultimately, students will present proposals for time-based planning interventions at selected locations, supported by well-researched references.
