The Schallmoos district is located to the rear of Salzburg's main railway station, within a track curve and directly adjacent to the Kapuzinerberg. Despite its excellent transport links between the main railway station and the Salzburg Gnigl S-Bahn station, the connection to the historic city center is inadequate. The original moorland area is now a kind of “urban island”, disconnected from the rest of the city. The district is dominated by low-density commercial and residential use and motorized private transport.
But this is soon to change. In the coming years, Schallmoos is set to become a lively, attractive, well-connected district with mixed use and high-quality public spaces. This transformation requires a careful tidying up and reorganization of the existing buildings.
We would like to take up this challenge with you. In cooperation with the transformator:in project team, which deals with the transformation of public mobility spaces, and the Department of Urban Planning of the City of Salzburg, we will examine the area for potential places that can contribute to a high-quality upgrade for residents through spatial intervention. In doing so, we will not understand the place as a mere collection of buildings, but will also integrate green spaces, water, infrastructure, etc. and enable a climate-conscious, socially just design.
We will first develop a joint strategy in the overall groups and then develop concepts in small groups of three people each that are in line with the strategy and bring architectural and urban qualities to the area.
