Team Pammer-Schindler: HCI and Educational Technology

We research interactive systems design from a socio-technical and learning perspective. Our research is situated in human-computer interaction and educational technology.

Taking a socio-technical perspective means that we try to take into account the whole socio-technical system in which technologies are placed when designing and evaluating technologies: Who uses technology, for what purpose, where, when, and on the background of which socio-cultural background?

We see learning as a lifelong human endeavour, and as such as interwoven and connected to all other human activities. Learning makes us human, and life interesting. Goals in our design are therefore to design tools that help humans be productive and become better at what they are doing over time.

Our technology focus is on data analytics and AI-enabled technologies, with conversational systems and language-based interaction as current foci. We use methods from user-centered and contextual design; and carry out experimental studies, design studies and field studies. Our salient methods focus is mixed methods evaluations, which includes qualitative, quantitative, and log data analytics.
