Carmen Elisabeth Auer ist seit 2002 im Rahmen unterschiedlicher Forschungsprojekte und Lehraufträge an der TU Graz beschäftigt. Von 2002 bis 2009 war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin des Forschungsprojektes des FWF/FSP „Buddhistischen Architektur im westlichen Himalaya“, 2009 bis 2010 Mitarbeiterin des Projektes „Vernakulare Architektur in der Steiermark“, 2010 bis 2014 leitete sie das Drittmittelprojektes „Save Dangkhar“, einer internationalen und fachübergreifenden Kooperation zur Erhaltung der buddhistischen Klosteranlage in Himachal Pradesh in Nordindien. Zwischen 2012 und 2017 betreute sie am Institut unterschiedliche Lehraufträge. Von 2018 bis 2021 arbeitet sie an einem FWF Folgeprojekt zur Buddhistische Architektur im Westlichen Himalaya, das sich auf die Architekturforschung in Dolpo/Nepal konzentriert.
