The application of intelligent methods for data processing in civil engineering is critical to ensure high safety standards, optimize the time and cost of the construction process, leverage sustainable logistics principles, and accelerate the transition to Industry 4.0.
RMT’s ML group conducts research and offers teaching services to the industry and the public in the application of data science, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) to geoengineering.
We focus on processing and analyzing geotechnical data characterized by large volume, high dimensionality, and complex dependencies. Our data sets stem from sensors on tunneling machinery, geophysical tests, drilling programs, tunnel face surveys, and project documentation.
In our research, we utilize both traditional data science instruments and state-of-the-art ML technologies (such as deep learning, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Autoencoders, and Transformers) to provide actionable insights, enabling informed decision-making, proactive management, and sustainable development in tunneling projects.
Among many other techniques, we also utilize state-of-the-art large language models (LLM) and AI-assistance technologies in our research and teaching
