What the FlyGrid want to achieve...

The need for integration of efficient, decentralized energy storage in fast charging station to avoid overloading of the grid cannot be been stressed enough. The FlyGrid solution is to integrate a FESS right at the EV charging station, acting as a “buffer”, which mitigates the peak power loads on the grid through load averaging.

One of the great advantage is that FlyGrid enables fast charging rates of 100 kW and more, even when only a 400V 50 Hz AC connection is at hand. Beyond that, local renewables can be integrated with ease and at the same time positive effects regarding grid stability and power quality can be achieved.

The basic idea/concept of the project is shown in the figure below. The technical functions of the FlyGrid system are described in more detail here (Link to Technology).

The goals of project FlyGrid can be divided in higher-level goals and technical goals. The higher-level goals are the ones responsible for the major socio-economic impact and can be summarized as follows: ·         Reduction of charging times of EVs and increase of EV market penetration ·         Higher customer satisfaction through improved charging network ·         Avoidance of a costly electric grid expansion ·         Improved integration of volatile renewables sources for EV propulsion ·         Improved grid stability and power quality ·         Portable fast charging solution (for example for zero emission construction equipment) The complex technical goals will be presented during the course of the project in our "news and updates" section.
