Technicalities for remote participants

There are two independent channels to participate:

  • a live stream from the lecture hall
  • a zoom session for the workshop

For your own talk, you need to join the zoom session. For just listening, either option works - the stream might have a slightly better audio quality, but is a few seconds behind. In zoom, it will be also possible to unmute yourself for questions that are broadcasted into the lecture hall, or use the chat instead.

Technicalities for on-site participants

  • Because of the technical setup, it is required that you use the dedicated laptop that we provide. Your talk has to be sent by email or copied on a USB stick, ideally in the morning of the day of presentation. Please use a pdf - all ppt files will be converted to pdf and we cannot ensure good quality.

The workshop venue

  • The workshop will take place in Kopernikusgasse 24. The lecture hall is "Hoersaal E" which is located in "1.Stock" (which is the 2nd floor in American counting). Take the entrance into the building at the corner Kopernikusgasse/Stremayrgasse and go up the stairs one level. The lecture hall is just across the red door, very close to the stairs.
  • The coffee breaks will take place in the "Seminarraum Geometrie" in the same building, but in 4.Stock (three levels up from the lecture hall). Just go up three more levels and turn left on the highest level to find a long aisle where the seminar rooms are towards the middle. Sorry for all the stairs - there is also an elevator, of course.
  • The seminar room will be available all week. There is no fixed program in the morning, but you are invited to hang out, have coffee and socialize in there (the lecture hall is booked for exams in the mornings). There is also no organized lunch, but there are many options close-by, and we can have lunch groups leaving at around 11:30 (to make it back in time for the talks at 1).

Practicalities in Graz

  • There are many hotel options, and the hotels that one finds on booking.com or google around the conference venue are generally reasonable.
  • There is a tram in Graz which is free in the inner city, that is, the 1-hop neighborhood of "Jakominiplatz" and "Hauptplatz", the two main squares of Graz. In particular, you can take the tram for free from there to "Dietrichsteinplatz", and it is just a 5 min walk to the venue. There is also a closer tram stop, but then you need a ticket. Here is more info on this
  • We also plan to organize some short excursion in the morning of some day. It will depend on the weather condition whether and on what day this will happen. Otherwise, the default location for tourism in Graz are the Schlossberg (a hill in the city center with some historical sites) and Schloss Eggenberg (a castle with a nice park). Another good place is Schöckl, the closest mountain which provides a cable car to go uphill. You can reach it by bus within around 45 minutes.
