After graduating from a mechanical engineering HTL and completing his military service, Kevin Pendl came from the small town of Zeltweg to the big city of Graz to study "Mechanical Engineering and Business Economics". After a short detour to the Institute of Mechanics, the second half of his bachelor's degree and the entire master's program were dominated by his work as a student assistant at the Institute of Strength of Materials. First experiences in teaching through tutorials and exam corrections could be gained through this. Since he has always enjoyed passing on knowledge and working with colleagues at the institute (and coincidentally a position as a university assistant became available), he decided that while working on a finite volume algorithm for elastostatics under finite deformations in the course of his master's thesis, he would remain loyal to the IFL and, in addition to research activities, continue to support the institute also in teaching.
