The Austrian Society for Biomedical Engineering is a non-profit scientific and educational organisation within the field of medical, clinical and biological engineering. The Society aims at encouraging research and the application of knowledge, and to disseminate information and promote collaboration.
Specific aims:
- foster interdisciplinary research activities comprising medicine/biology and engineering sciences (basic and applied research)
- develop and evaluate novel technologies for improving health and quality of life under consideration of ethical standards
- develop job profiles for biomedical engineers and their positions and duties in society
- develop guidelines for under and post graduate education and lifelong training in biomedical engineering
- support communication and collaboration between national and international societies, industry, governmental and nongovernmental organisations in the field of biomedical research
- Representation of Austria in international umbrella organisations in the field of research and education in Biomedical Engineering, e. g. IFMBE* and EAMBES**
